Employees at work have a great time no matter what they are doing. They are all disliked for the same reason. Humour is essential at work which is 100% free but only a small percentage of employees use it to its fullest potential. Can you remember the last time you laughed when you were at work? Or when you made others laugh?
A smile uses fewer muscles, and facts demonstrate that laughter lowers blood pressure and stimulates the release of so called hormones endorphins into our bodies. These hormones are the same stress-relieving agents triggered by exercise. The biology is, laughter stimulates the immune system and offsets the effects of stress.
Sometimes at work, we are so focused that we forget to laugh, there is often a situation where we can find humour, and yet we are often a million miles away from smiling regularly as part of our daily routine.
Some of us are under the impression that life is serious and whatever we do; we have to take all aspects of it seriously. Some of us believe if we make jokes, others judge us by it and write us off in a negative way. But the real fact is, most of us admire people who can laugh as well as make others laugh by our creativity. The trick is appropriate humour at appropriate times.
Laughing is real fun. It gives an opportunity to create synergy and a sense of excitement in any situation. It makes people relaxed, helps build relationships as well as business partnerships. In a get together which group would you join? – the one where people are laughing and having fun, or the one where they are sitting idle? Sure, most of us will join the former group.
In a survey conducted of 100 VP’s of big companies, results revealed that about 80% thought employees with a good sense of humour performed better than those with very little or no sense of humour. Of course, work is not to be treated seriously at all the times. About 700 CEOs were interviewed, 95% of them stated that they would recruit a candidate who had a good sense of humour over someone who did not.
An important note to consider is when and what is OK to laugh at?
Humour which is considered to be inappropriate can be destructive, such as, making fun of a person’s physical appearance, etc. Creativity in your words or talking about personal experiences is a great source of humorous stories.
Let us look at some of the notes on ‘How to start laughing more in your work place?’
Try to picture one of your favourite comedians in the same situation and how would they handle it. Talk to your colleagues who have a good sense of humour and start a conversation that will bring a smile to your faces. Thus Humour Helps Humans at Work!
